The program of study prepares a student for an entry level tower technician (working at heights) position in the telecommunication sector. Topics include safety, basic rigging and fall protection, principles of electricity, fiber optics, wireless technology, cell components, antenna basics, and spectrum management. Tower technicians are on the front lines of connecting America’s rural, unserved, and underserved communities to broadband and highspeed communications services. As the need for broadband services grows across the globe, tower technicians and communications infrastructure contractors will be called upon to install communications and broadcast towers that connect rural, unserved, and underserved communities.

  • Tower technicians are able to spend a considerable amount of time traveling across the country, and depending on the company, many techs have traveled to some of the most remote locations in the world, including Greenland, remote villages in Africa, Ascension Island, Antarctica, and more!
  • Starting salary for many tower technicians in Ohio (and surrounding areas) is as much as $50-60,000
  • Students completing this certificate program will be able to complete the National Wireless Safety Alliance ANSI accredited trade certification for a TTT 1.
  • This program is part of a new initiative from the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation (OWT) and NATE: The Communications Infrastructure Contractors Association.
